Overview
Features of Porcelain Crucibles:
Glazed porcelain, resistant to thermal shock up to 1050 °C
Good chemical and acid resistance
Incompatible with Hydrofluoric acid and Alkali salts
Includes glazed lids
Features of Stainless Steel Crucibles:
Can be used for temperatures from – 180 °C to 500 °C
Resistant to nitric acid, nitrates and potassium permanganate
Good resistance to concentrated alkali solutions
Medium resistance to acetic acid, dilute sulfuric acid, low concentrations of phosphoric and solutions of sulfates, boric acid, organic acids and bromide solutions
Features of Nickel (Ni) Crucibles
Will not oxidize in air and with temperatures up to 500 °C
Excellent resistance to damp chlorine and gaseous hydrochloric acid
Good resistance to alkali and seawater
Slowly attacked by organic, hydrochloric and sulfuric acids
Low resistance to diluted nitric acid
Features of Zirconium (Zr) Crucibles
Superior to other metals for fusion applications of peroxides and carbonates
Can replace platinum in many cases
Resistant to mixtures of alkaline, carbonate hydroxide, peroxide borate, nitrates, some fluorides and sulfuric acid with a concentration below 75 %
Attacked by hydrofluoric acid
